Choreographer/ performer Ade Suharto and composer/ performer David formed Suharto/Kotlowy in 2010. Their first work, In Lieu, was commissioned by the Adelaide Festival Centre’s OzAsia Festival 2011. Within the work, Ade explores classical Javanese dance as a metaphor for her ever-evolving relationship to her Indonesian heritage as an Australian-born artist. For her performance in In Lieu, Ade was noted as ‘Dancer to Watch’ by the Dance Australia 2011 Critics’ Survey.
The intent is straightforward - my photographs are of scenes taken to arouse interest, conversation, to stir you, to make you wonder. I want to capture it as though you had just walked into the scene - like a movie, paused on a dramatic moment– you know something is about to happen but you don’t know what. The scene is full of drama and mystery, it's full of energy and stillness at the same precise moment and it beckons you to fill in the gaps; create the story or finish it. “What is about to happen?, What has just happened?” My photograph, becomes your story.

Our Artists is a showcase of outstanding, South Australian creative talent. It is compiled by artists and for artists; we invite South Australian artists in all artforms to follow the step-by-step registry to upload information about their latest work, their website and images to share with all Arts SA users.
We want this to be a dynamic catalogue of creative people living and working in the State. Each time you update your website, or load a fresh image of a new piece of work, Our Artists will be refreshed and kept up to date. So please, take a moment to follow the steps.
I paint from life where possible. I love nature and natural forms and try to capture something of their essence when I paint. For the most part, I am self taught, but owe some of my skills to teachers Margaret Slape-Philllips, Robin Eley, David Kassan and Melanie Brown. The mistakes are all my own though -- they tried their best....

AS I PAINT, MY THOUGHTS AND FEELINGS TO THE PAPER
THE BRUSH IS JUST AN EXTENSION OF MY HAND.
